§ 02 — Who actually replies

A real Williamsburg address. A senior designer on the other end of the line.

Every inquiry that lands at Dyson Art is answered by one of two people: Mara Dyson, the studio's founding partner, or Theo Park, our director of strategy. There is no intake form, no SDR pipeline, no account manager in the middle of the conversation. The person who reads your email is the person who will sit across from you in the studio — or on the call — when the work begins.

The studio sits on the third floor of a converted ribbon factory in North Williamsburg, four blocks from the Bedford Avenue L stop. The door is not signed — we prefer it that way — but the kettle is almost always on, and there is generally a layout proof pinned to the wall by the front desk. Founders visiting from out of town tend to stay for lunch; we keep a short list of neighborhood spots we trust, and we are happy to make a reservation.

Common questions, answered candidly. § 03 ↓

§ 03 — Before you book

Answers to the questions founders ask us most.

What exactly is the $3,800 paying for?

Two weeks of focused, partner-led work: a stakeholder interview, a competitive audit, a documented brand strategy (positioning, voice, audience), two directional visual concepts, and a fixed-scope proposal for the full identity build. You leave with a 30–40 page sprint document and a clear yes/no/continue decision.

The sprint is paid in full upfront. Roughly 70% of sprints convert into a full engagement — the remaining 30% walk away with a strategy document they can hand to any studio, including ours.

What is the timeline from sprint to a complete identity?

The Discovery Sprint itself runs in 2 weeks. A full identity system — logo, type system, color, motion, and packaging — typically ships in 6.2 weeks from kickoff. That is roughly half the 14–18 week benchmark we see across the rest of the industry.

We do not pad timelines. The 6-week figure is the average across 184 shipped systems, including complex multi-brand engagements.

Who owns the work after delivery?

You do — fully, irrevocably, and worldwide. Logo marks, type files, motion source, packaging dielines, and all working files transfer to your ownership the moment the final invoice clears. There is no licensing scheme, no per-use fee, and no retained creative control on our side.

The sprint itself works the same way: the strategy document and visual concepts are yours to keep regardless of whether you proceed to a full engagement.

What happens if you are not the right studio for us?

We will say so, and we will tell you which kind of studio is. Roughly a third of the founders who book a sprint end up being a better fit for a smaller studio, an in-house hire, or a different kind of engagement entirely. We would rather lose a fee than take on work we are not the best people for.

If the sprint reveals a mismatch, you keep the strategy document and we refund 50% of the sprint fee — a small acknowledgment that we spent your time.
